Frequently Asked Questions
Deciding What Phrases to Use as Titles, Descriptions and Keywords
Before you start inputting the code, you will need to figure out
which terms and phrases are appropriate for your website. Follow
the steps to decide what titles, descriptions, and keywords will
be best to use for your website.
Step 1.
Click
http://webtools.live2support.com/se_kwd.php.
Step 2.
You will see on the screen Keyword Selector
Tool. This tool will allow you to see how many searches have
been done in the last month for the words/phrases that you will be
entering into the code of your website. This tool will help you decide what phrases are the
best for the items you are going to be inputting into the manager.
Step 3.
Take a moment to think about your item or
product and how you would like it to be found on the search engines.
For instance, if you are inputting a new property into the manager
that’s in Beech Mountain North Carolina, then you would want to think about
keywords related to Beech Mountain North Carolina Real Estate. So you
would type into the box, “Beech Mountain North Carolina Real Estate” or
“Beech Mountain NC Real Estate”.
Step 4.
The keyword tool, Overture, will show you how many
searches for your phrase have been done within the last month.
In some instances, you will find that your phrase has had zero
searches. In this case you will know that coding your items for
these phrases will be of no help to you on the search engines. You
want to choose the phrases that get the most searches and are
relevant and specific to your items. Take some time to investigate
different phrases and words for your items. You may wish to keep
notes of the search phrases and descriptions you use in a notepad or
word file.
Note:
Sometimes depending on your product or property, there won’t be any
searches that are related to the item. In this instance, you should
think about uses for the item, and try and think about what common
people who are not in your field would be searching for when they
are looking for what your product provides. In some cases it
might be more helpful to go broader and more general. For
properties, keep in mind that when people search they are usually
specific to the state. For example, if the property is in
Jefferson NC, then you wouldn’t want to find phrases related to
Jefferson Real Estate (because Jefferson is not unique
in the United States) - you would want to choose phrases related to
Jefferson NC Real Estate, or Jefferson North Carolina Real Estate.
Using the Phrases You Found to Create Titles, Descriptions and
Keywords
Now you have found some terms and phrases to code your items in the
web site manager. You will be using the best phrases and
terms for your titles, descriptions and keywords.
To pick a title
simply pick the highest searched phrase according to Overture. The
title is the most important aspect of being found on the search
engines.
To come up with a good description
sentence be sure to include a little information about your
property/article/product, using a few phrases and terms that had the
most amount of searches done as indicated by Overture. You might
want to also include your business name if that is relevant.
Basically the description sentence is just that, a sentence
describing what you are entering into the manager. You will want to
be broad, so that you can use some of the highly searched phrases
according to overture.
Be sure to keep your description
sentences less than 23 words.
When deciding upon keywords
pick the highest 5 or 6 phrases and terms and list them with commas
in between each. Be sure to make all words lower case.
Note: The Overture tool will list all the searches
related to the phrase you are searching for. You can use the related
search phrases that Overture gives you in forming the Descriptions,
to ensure you include the highest searched phrase and other phrases
related to your item, and your website will have a higher chance of
being found for one of those phrases.
You can use the other listed
related searches in coming up with your keywords and descriptions.
You can use some of the other related searches for titles as well if
you have a variety of items that are the same, but be sure to at
least include the highest searched phrase.
Where to Put Newly Created Titles, Descriptions and Keywords:
Now you’re ready to input the terms and phrases you have researched
into your web site manager or online store. If you are
entering a new item, log in to your web site manager and click on
the “New” link. Once you have input the item’s details, scroll to
the bottom of the page and input the Meta Title, Meta Description
and Meta Keywords.
If you are adding code to existing listings, log in to your web site
manager, click on the “List” link and select the item you are
modifying. At the bottom of the item’s detail page, you can input
the Meta Title, Meta Description and Meta Keywords.
For each item you will need to do this. After you input
the title, description and keywords be sure to click “submit” to
save the updated information for each item.
If you choose to not enter in any title, description or keyword, the
web site manager will automatically default to the settings that we
have input for the main page of your web site. It may not be
as specific as you would like, therefore it is beneficial for you to
put in titles and descriptions and keywords for each item that you
enter into the manager. The more titles, descriptions and
keywords that you code for the easier it will be for people to find
your website on the search engines.
You can also add search engine titles, descriptions and keywords
into your online store manager. By
coding your products and their categories, you have a better chance
of being found on the search engines. After you have done some
research on the terms that have anything to do with your products,
you can input the terms very easily by following these directions.
Go into your manager, with your username and password. After
you have signed in, the manager Main Menu screen will be showing. On
this screen you will see a few “tab” like buttons at the top of the
page that read: orders, customers, products, categories, etc.
To enter the search engine coding for the products, you can click on
the Products tab. When
you do this, the screen will display all of the products that you
have input into the store. If you click on one of your products, the
Edit Product screen will show. Using your mouse, scroll down
the page and find the section near the bottom of the page that has
fields that read: Meta Title, Meta Description, and Meta
Keywords. This is the place where you will enter the title,
description and keywords that you have come up with after
researching for appropriate search terms with overture. After
entering each code into its appropriate field, you then click on the
“Save Product” button at the bottom of the page, and the information
that you entered will be saved. You must do this for each
product, if you wish for each product to be coded for the search
engines.
To enter the search engine coding for the different categories that
you have in your online store simply, go to your Main Menu screen
and click on the Categories tab at the top of the page. After
clicking on the tab, you will see the Categories that you inputted
into the store listed. To enter coding into each one of the
categories, click on the edit link next to each category. When you
do this you will see the Edit Category page displayed. You will see
at the bottom of the page there are spaces labeled: Meta Title, Meta
Description, and Meta Keywords. These are the spaces where you can
input the terms and coding that you have researched regarding the
title, description and keywords. After you have input the
information into each field, click on the “Save Category” button at
the bottom of the page. You must do this for each category, in order
for each category to be coded for on the search engines.
